The wonders of laser hair removal

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

Let's talk about hair or more importantly lack of!! Hallelujah!!!

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is the process of hair removal by means of exposure to different wavelengths that damage the hair follicle over time. The laser is attracted to the pigment in hair follicle thus having pigmented hair is essential for best results.

Not all wavelengths are safe for all skin types.

At Prestige Laser Studio, Clarity Laser provides dual wavelength, Nd:YAG and Alexandrite wavelength in order to treat all skin types safely!

Am I candidate for laser hair removal?

Consultations are always highly recommended for a proper assessment. If you are unsure and want to learn more about laser hair removal, this is the perfect appointment for you. One of our friendly and knowledgable staff members is always here to help you with your laser hair removal journey.

How many sessions do I need?

Laser hair removal can vary from patient to patient. Most patients require anywhere from 6-12 treatments which allows up to 95% reduction.

Booking your appointment according to which body part is being treated is essential for best results. Hair reduction is dependent on stress, hormonal changes, medication and regularly scheduled treatments.

What areas can I treat?

We are able to treat any area on body from head to toe!

Does it hurt?

Laser hair removal can be painful depending on what technology is used. At Prestige Laser Studio, we use the latest technology which provides cryogen cooling for extra comfort without affecting the efficacy of the treatment provided.

Does laser work on blonde, light hair?

Blonde, light hair is not ideal for laser hair removal because there is simply no pigment to target. It may reduce or slow down the growth but not remove altogether. Laser hair removal cannot treat white, red or grey hair.

Can I get laser hair removal if I have darker skin? Is it safe?

Not all wavelengths are safe for all skin types. Darker skin type requires a deeper wavelength to bypass the epidermal melanin and target the follicle effectively. Yag wavelength is a true laser that is specifically meant to treat darker skin types safely!

Do I need to grow my hair before treatment or shave?

The area being treated should be carefully and thoroughly shaved 24hours prior to your appointment, this avoids unnecessary irritation caused by dry shaving. It is recommended that a small patch be left behind for the laser technician to examine the hair before treating.

Can I get waxing before and in between my treatments?

No! Waxing should not be done 1 month prior to your first treatment and in between treatments as it will remove the follicle and treatments will be ineffective. Once you remove the follicle, there is no target to treat with the laser.

Is laser hair removal expensive?

We, at Prestige Laser Studio hold very competitive prices and customized packages for our patients daily. Prices vary depending on what area you are interested in treating or if you've had laser hair removal previously. We also offer monthly payment options with no interest to make it easier and more affordable for you. You matter!!!

When is the best time to get laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal can be done all year if you are protecting your body with sunscreen re-application all year round however there are many factors to consider before starting your treatments. Considering vacations and exposure to sun throughout the year is extremely important for properly treating the unwanted hair safely. We always recommend using ZO medical grade sunscreen

Is safe to get laser hair removal when I have a tan or used a self tanner?

Sun exposure should be avoided 2-3 weeks prior and post treatment for safety depending on which wavelength is being used.

Self tanner should also not be used as the laser will target the pigment in the product and cause burning. Avoiding sun exposure also decreases hyperpigmentation.

What to expect after a laser hair removal treatment?

Right after being treated, your skin might be a bit red or pink but subsides usually within 24hours. Some patients can experience redness for a few days but it is very rare. Follicular edema is very common after laser hair removal as well and subsides quite quickly with most patients.

Can I have laser hair removal if i'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is our policy as an extra precaution to not treat patients that are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Although there are no risks associated with breast feeding and laser hair removal, we do refrain from treating until breast feeding is fully done. Bodies go through a lot of hormonal changes with breast feeding so unless someone is insisting on having laser hair removal during that time - we do not treat them. A doctor's consent is essential for this to happen.

Do I need maintenance treatments?

After having a series of treatments, maintenance can be required over time. Some hair may be left behind after all your treatments and a quick touch up is all it takes!

Is hair removal guaranteed?

No medical treatment is guaranteed. Everyone's body responds differently and there is no way of telling how the body will respond. There is a small percentage of patients that do not respond.
