How To Improve Red, Sensitive Skin

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

Rosacea is a common skin condition that is linked to an impaired barrier function of the skin. It is recognized by facial flushing, sensitivity, dilated blood vessels, breakouts and consistent redness mostly in the nose and chin area. There is no cure for rosacea but with proper home care and treatments, the flushing and sensitivity can be strengthened and managed over time.

Flare-ups can be triggered by anything. From sun exposure, medications, temperature extremes, alcohol, spicy food, and more. Rosacea triggers can be different from patient to patient, so monitoring your own reactions to learn your triggers can be incredibly beneficial if looking to lessen the frequency of flare-ups.

Although rosacea is not curable, it is treatable. There are plenty of product options and in-clinic treatments that can be included into your everyday skincare routine to improve not only rosacea symptoms but also other redness and irritation related skin concerns.

At home care:

Getting Skin Ready (GSR) is recommended for all skin types. This protocol reduces excess sebum, inflammation, strengthens, and normalizes skin function.

  • Daily Power Defense is a powerful antioxidant serum that supports skin's natural DNA repair process and helps to restore barrier function and replenish lipids. It also helps improve signs of aging by boosting collagen and hyaluronic acid production.

Daily Power Defense + Rozatrol

  • Rozatrol is a perfect corrective serum that helps to control red sensitized skin. It is a treatment serum that provides anti-microbial benefits, minimizes inflammation/redness, reduces excess sebum and normalizes skin function. Rozatrol also helps to protect nerve endings in the skin while maintaining healthy cellular communication.

This rejuvenating at-home peel soothes and hydrates your skin for a smoother texture and brighter appearance. It provides a gentle surface exfoliation and replenishes hydration and lipids to improve skin barrier. It also helps soothe and calm the skin.

This dual action sunscreen protects against the damaging effects of UVA/UVB, IR-A rays and from HEV light. It hydrates and doubles as a makeup primer for a smooth matte finish, diminishing skin imperfections and reducing redness. Sunscreen is essential no matter what skin condition we are trying to improve.

In clinic treatments:

1. Redness treatment- Treatment by our Lutronic Clarity laser that specifically targets redness in the skin by slowly and comfortably heating up the skin allowing the heat to coagulate the redness we see on the surface. Over a series of treatments, this will result in a reduction of overall redness.

It takes 3-5 treatments to reduce the redness. After 3-5 sessions, 1-2 maintenance treatments are required every year to keep rosacea from flaring up.

2. Laser Genesis- Is a treatment that creates a heat matrix in the dermal layer. The heat and light from the laser helps stimulate collagen and elastin, reduce pore size and improve fine lines and wrinkles. Laser Genesis treatment is best done in a series of 6, 2 weeks apart.

3. Hydrafacial + Rozatrol - Hydrafacial is a technology based treatment that helps to gently exfoliate and extract impurities. After neutralizing the peel, we are able to customize the booster to treat patient's specific skin condition. Rozatrol is specifically designed to help soothe the skin through hydration, minimizing the appearance of redness, sensitized skin for a renewed complexion. Finishing off with a low weight hyaluronic acid amongst various vitamins for soothing and plumping effect followed by a medical grade sunscreen. Hydrafacial can be done every month.

4. Scarlet RF Microneedling is a non-surgical treatment that is clinically proven to improve rosacea. This treatment can be done every 4-6 weeks and should be done in a series of 3-6 for best results.
